More About CST Advocacy
The nonpartisan CST social benefit organization focuses on political activities that serve the public by promoting candidates for office and advocating for responsible legislation and policies that promote good governance and agency accountability at the ballot. Our 501(c)(4) organization sponsors political efforts on behalf of Marin taxpayers by funding campaigns to oppose certain proposed legislation if we believe it to be poorly crafted or unfair. Equally, we campaign in support of certain measures and ballot initiatives. We also, on occasion, campaign in support of or against candidates in local elections.
Recent Political Activities
In the March 2024 election CST campaigned and won against the Tamalpais High School Unified School District’s proposed $517 million bond issue. This cadillac proposal added every possible goodie from the district’s wishlist for certain local campuses while ignoring others. All of this at a cost of over $1 billion to the local school district taxpayers. CST’s vigorous work on this issue succeeded and the THUSD bond issue failed at the ballot.
In the November 2022 election of Marin Municipal Water District board members, CST campaigned in support of 3 out 5 members of the board. All of our candidates were elected by significant margins. By supporting and campaigning for new candidates CST succeeded in transforming a do-nothing agency into a responsible steward of Marin’s precarious water supply.
